The 209 Hot Rod Events Cruise-In was in the Nation's Burgers parking lot on McHenry Blvd in Modesto on Saturday, March 21, 2026. I'd read about it in NorCal Car Culture and cleaned up my gorgeous 2005 Mustang GT. The ad said it started at 7:00 pm. That's right when I arrived, but the parking lot was already full of classic cars of every kind. I cruised the crowded lot and had a couple of people comment that my Mustang was too new. As I looked around, the newest car I saw in the show was a 3rd-gen Camaro, maybe a 1987. So, I was a duck out of water. But I managed to find a spot at the edge of the show to display my car.
I wandered the show and took the photos you see here and talked to folks, both car owners and spectators. Everyone seemed to know about these 'cruise-ins' put on by a fellow named Jeff at 209 Hot Rod Events. I'd never heard of it before, but I'm paying attention now. It was a great show and I'd love to come back next time. But I think I may have to buy an older car, since my '72 Pontiac Grand Prix project won't be done for some time. I spotted this sweet little '65 T-Bird for sale on the side of the road the other day. Maybe I'll have to check that out...
The variety of cars and trucks was quite eclectic.
There was some cruising taking place inside the show. Lots of activity and exhaust noise.
Lots of car owners hung out and turned it into a social event. It was very nice.
There was a nice selection of fairly-original muscle cars from the 60s and early 70s on hand, of course.

NOW FOR SOME OF MY PERSONAL FAVORITES:
I don't know why but I just love 50s Cadillacs. This one's a 1957 Coupe DeVille. Look at those twin bullets on the front bumper. In the 50s they called those 'Dagmars', which referred to a well-endowed actress of the day.
Who doesn't love a '64 GTO?
These 1970 Plymouth AAR 'Cudas are not only pieces of history, they're great-looking cars. And of course they haul ass with that high-revving 340 Six-Pack engine backed up by a 4-speed. Built to race in the SCCA Trans Am series.
Oh, you had me at 'split bumper'. I love early 2nd-gen Camaro RS's. That split bumper and the grille opening really get to me. This is a 1970-73 (they all look almost the same). I myself had a 1973 Z/28 RS and sold it like an idiot. Ever heard that one before?
I'm crazy about Bandit Trans Ams. This is a 1977 or 1978.
The show was billed for 7:00 pm to 9:00, but people had started showing up at around 5:30. If you want to check one of these shows out and you want to show your car, get there early. And make sure it's old enough.
The one drawback to the time was that at this time of year, it's dark by 8:00 so the second have of the officially-2-hour show was in the dark. The lighting in the parking lot was adequate to move around safety, but not really enough to view the cars properly. People started filing out with their cars around this time but plenty of people stayed to the end and beyond. Overall it was a good time and a great show. Congrats to Jeff.
