MOVIE CARS WANTED: My daughter, Sky, is a professional film maker. She runs the entire video department at the Modesto College District (3 colleges, East Campus, West Campus and Columbia) and is also a heavy hitter in Modesto's burgeoning independent film community. She, and other talented film makers like her are working on independent films constantly, right here in Modesto. Several times now she has come to me looking for a classic or special car, a Movie Car, for a certian shot in a film she's making. It's happening again, she's making a 7-minute short and needs a flashy car for a street scene. So, it was her specific need here that inspired this next leap.
It occurred to me that we, Valley Classics Car Club, should create an online clearinghouse to get people who have cool cars together with filmmakers who need cool cars. It would be a symbiotic relationship that benefits both sides. So here, unveiled for the first time is our new Movie Cars page where you can reach out to movie makers about using your car in a film.
SO, WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF IT? Local independent film makers generally don't have a lot of money to throw around, so if you're thinking of cashing in on your car's movie career, this isn't going to work for you. There is no financial compensation. What you will receive is a credit at the end, a copy of the finished movie, and a professional photo of your car on the set. And an official Letter of Appreciation naming you and the car. Of course, you'll want to be there during filming to keep an eye on your car, and that alone can be very cool. And of course, you'll get the bragging rights.
WHAT WILL BE EXPECTED OF YOU? To deliver the car, clean and in good working order to the place and at the time agreed upon. You will need to stay for the duration of the shots involving your car. You car must be safe, street legal, and insured.
1. PICTURES - It's vital that you send a good set of photos of the car from at least 4 angles. An engine shot and one good interior shot. Make sure you frame them well and that the lighting is good. Make them good, this is the most important step and your only chance to sell the car.
2. TELL US ABOUT YOUR CAR - We don't need too much detail on the build or the finer details. Just what year, make, model, sub-model, color? Is it loud. Does it run well? Does it overheat?
3. YOUR CONTACT INFO - Your name, phone number, email address, city and are there any restrictions on the use of the car? Like, it can only be on weekends, or the headlights don't work so no night shots, that sort of thing.
4. SEND TO: Email it all to me at andytallone73@gmail.com. Not too many pictures, 8-10 max. Not to much detail. It's mainly the look of the car that matters to filmmakers, they don't care about the engine, or the Mustang II front suspension.
